Guinness World Record attempt planned for this weekend in Wynnum

During the week Andrew Niven, a proud Djaku-nde man from the Bunya Mountains, works at Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC) as their very first Indigenous Partnership Manager.

At the weekend he prefers to do a bit of exercise.

Well this coming weekend in any case, when he is looking to claim the Guinness World Record by rowing 308km on an indoor rowing machine within a 24 hour period and in the process raise $20,000 for the Deadly Choices Sub Fund.

Deadly Choices is the promotional and preventative health arm of the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) which aims to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to take control of their own health by living a healthy lifestyle. Their efforts have resulted in a 3552% increase in the community completing comprehensive health checks since 2010 in South East Queensland.

The Sub Fund supports the sustainable expansion of Deadly Choices across Australia and is designed to build an enduring source of funding through return of investment to support the Deadly Choices program.

And this isn’t the first time that Andrew has gone after a Guinness World Record either – in 2021 he broke the record for the most amount of weight lifted by a kettlebell swing in 24 hours!

The record attempt will take place this weekend from 6:30am on Sunday 12th February until 6:30am on Monday 13th February at Rebuild Health & Fitness at 10 North Road Wynnum West (near Lindum Station).

Andrew welcomes anyone who would like to support him to come down to the venue and cheer him on and also to donate to the cause, which you can do on his fundraising page here –

He has raised $9,528 so far, so only another $10,472 to go.

We wish Andrew all the very best in his record attempt!
