Michael Jullyan is every bit part and parcel of Wynnum Manly. A local resident of 40 years he lives locally, his boys go to local schools and his office is split between Wynnum and a current rebuild in Manly. Above all he is a passionate advocate of seeing the redevelopment of Wynnum and particularly its CBD.
As a hands on proprietor of an award winning local architectural practice he is involved in projects in Brisbane and across Australia.
Despite the national projects it’s his home based Wynnum Manly region that is close to Michael’s heart with half of the business being east of Brisbane’s CBD. Over the last 21 years Michael and his team have made an imprint on Wynnum, having designed more buildings than any other architect, with years of dedication and love for the bayside.
Michael has a business and community focus and has been a leading proponent for three years as the Chair of the Wynnum Manly Taskforce with its revitalisation approach to the local city plan, new banners, markets, and a new Wynnum colourband that included the painting of the Manly Water Tower as a welcome statement to visitors to the area. Currently he is a major driving force for the inaugural Remax Illuminations Festival to be staged alongside the wading pool in June 2014.
Michael sees a whole-of-bayside approach with his involvement in the planned Moreton Bay Discovery Centre and William Gunn Jetty tourism precinct within the Manly Harbour marina. Over the last five years Michael has developed design concepts, business plans and created a new entity that will be responsible for gaining the funds and to develop this project.
He sees it as a natural way to help his local community “I am a passionate lover of the Moreton Bay region and believe the only way to help the community is to be involved in it. In this way others can see your belief and become involved and this has a snowball effect that benefits the whole community.”
Michael ‘fell in love’ with the Wynnum Manly region when he moved 40 years ago and attended Manly West primary school. His enlightenment came in 1993 when he says “I moved my practice from Brisbane’s CBD after a few years of commuting and have since for many years enjoyed the balance of a great work/home lifestyle….plus I have a 5 minute commute along the Esplanade to work!”
“For me, Wynnum is the best of many worlds, firstly for living on Moreton Bay as the most beautiful place to live in Brisbane. The Esplanade, the waterfront parklands, the water activities, the clubs, the schools, the sporting facilities and the cosy but vibrant retail heart, all so close to the city is amazing and in my opinion it is the best kept secret in Australia.”
When not working Michael loves to take his yacht out on Moreton Bay hosting friends, family and clients showing all the beauty that the Bay has to offer, watching the mighty Wynnum Bugs Rugby teams and frequenting the restaurants, cafes and clubs of the area.
