Are you ready for The Wynnum Fringe?

This weekend Wynnum Central is set to transform into one big stage, or more accurately lots of them dotted around, as part of the inaugural Wynnum Fringe festival. The program for the festival, running from this Friday 13th November until Sunday 15th features around 60 performances in all sorts of weird and wonderful locations around the precinct. There are quite a few free events and a number of paid events, although due to current COVID rules, you can’t just rock up to free events – you have to register online.

It’s safe to say that this is a first of its kind – not just for Wynnum but probably for Queensland. It’s certainly the first of its kind in the Republic of Wynnum anyway!
Opening Ceremony
The festival will officially open at 5.20pm on Friday in Greene Park with a special smoking ceremony and dance presented by the Yulu Bari Ba Dancers, organised by Winnam Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders Corporation in partnership with Quandamooka Festival. Quandamooka Elders will then lead the group along the Esplanade and up to Edith Street where the weekend of festivities will take place.
This is an opportunity for our diverse community to walk along the shore of Moreton Bay and hear the traditional connection to Quandamooka Country told by Quandamooka People. It’s a chance to acknowledge the 25,000 years of history in Wynnum and grow together as one.
SCHEDULE:
5:20pm: Arrive and QR check-in.
5:30pm: Dance & Smoke Ceremony
5:50pm: Community walk from Greene Park to Edith Street.
6:30pm: Nix Gross
6:35pm: Welcome To Country
