Final pitches from the candidates

Unfortunately we only had responses from two of the eight candidates we reached out to, who are listed below in alphabetical order of political party name. We will add any more if we receive them today. Here are the two responses so far…

Kara Cook, ALP candidate for Bonner

My life has been shaped by service – as a mum, domestic violence lawyer, small business owner, and Brisbane City Councillor. I will always fight for you.

I know the challenges people in our community face, whether it’s looking for work, paying bills, or finding somewhere to live. Repairing our economy after a decade of LNP cuts takes time, but Australia is turning the corner.

This election, your choice matters. Together, in just three years, we’ve delivered tax cuts, lifted wages, reduced inflation and now interest rates are falling.

We know there’s more to do. Labor will help with the cost of living with another $150 off your power bills, more tax cuts for every taxpayer, and reduce all HECS debt by 20%.

We will strengthen Medicare with the biggest investment in bulk billing ever so you can see a doctor for free, train more doctors and open another 50 Urgent Care Clinics – including one in Carindale.

I’m proud to have fought for this commitment, so people in Bonner can get free, urgent healthcare close to home – and all you’ll need is your Medicare card.

We will also cap PBS medications at $25, with even cheaper medicines for pensioners and concession card holders.

Labor will continue the largest housing build in Australian history, building 1.2 million homes in five years and help more first home buyers into the market with a 5% deposit.

We’ll invest in every stage of education with cheaper childcare and expanded access to early education, put all Queensland schools on a pathway to full funding, and make free TAFE permanent.

Peter Dutton will cut the things you need, like cost of living relief and Medicare, while increasing your taxes to pay for his $600 billion nuclear plan.

We can’t afford Peter Dutton – he cuts, you pay.

Ross Dovey, Family First Party candidate for Bonner

Ross Dovey is a retired instrumental teacher and musician. He has been married for 45 years and has four adult children. Ross has stepped up to give voters in the electorate of Bonner the option to vote for family values, freedom of religion and protecting life.

Strong families form the fundamental building blocks of local communities which in turn strengthen towns, cities and regions. Family First stands for policies that will help build up families rather than tear them down.

Family First believes human life begins at conception and should be protected from that moment until natural death. Australian women deserve support and care in order to carry and raise their children.

Children are our future and must be protected. Gender ideologies are being forced upon our children causing great harm. Family First supports restoring the true definition of male and female, restoring the meaning of ‘woman’ in the Sex Discrimination Act and keeping biological males out of women’s sport and spaces.

Family First stands with parents in choosing the education of their children. Independent schools are under attack by progressive activists resulting in parents having to fight to educate their children according to the faith and values they believed the school to hold.

For a country to remain prosperous it requires cheap, reliable, clean and secure energy. In Australia we have resources in abundance. We are so energy rich and yet successive government policies prevent us from using these resources. The virtue signalling obsession with net-zero and renewables will bankrupt the country, while simultaneously destroying our security and environment.

Family First is running senate and lower house candidates in Qld this election to promote family, faith, life and freedom, please help us get the foundation right, so we can build well from there.
