Screen Queensland studios now open for business in Hemmant
Cotton sheds in Hemmant converted into brand spanking new facility
What were originally cotton sheds in Hemmant are now – after a $12M investment from the Queensland State Government – film studios designed for use for mid-low budget Australian and international feature films, TV drama and TV commercials.
The Gold Coast has already hosted a number of productions (including Aquaman, which made over $1 billion globally) and now it’s the turn of the Wynnum area with the new studios.
The new facility includes two large (6000sqm) sound stages and two warehouses (also 6000sqm each), along with a 3000sqm mixed use building and a production office.
State MP for Lytton Joan Pease said…
”The great thing about the screen industry is that it offers opportunities, not just for our great bayside locations as backdrops, but for local businesses as diverse as carpenters and caterers. I’m so proud that Hemmant will host this permanent location for the screen industry in Queensland.”
The studios will act as an overflow of sorts for the Village Roadshow studio facilities on the Gold Coast, and already have a Paramount production booked to use the studio for a 26 week block.
Actors and other workers at the new studios will be delighted to find that they are only a very short walk from the Queensport Tavern and a short drive away from Wynnum Central… keep your eyes peeled for the odd celeb!
