Wynnum Herald celebrates 70 years
The first edition of the paper came out on 31st January 1946 had a print run of just 3,000, had no photos and was just four pages long! It was published by brothers Stan and George Lockwood, who had just returned to the printing business set up by their father William, W Lockwood & Sons, after active service in the Second World War.
The Lockwood brother continued to run the paper after their father died in 1963 and then sold the Herald to Queensland Newspapers in 1970.
This week’s edition of the Wynnum Herald is celebrating the anniversary with a special feature interviewing local residents and business owners.
